Cotillion or Graduation Dress

My daughter participated in Junior Cotillion in both 7th and 8th grades, will need a long white dress for her high school graduation, and will also hopefully be invited to our local cotillion her sophomore year of college. That's a lot of white dresses!

We didn't have cotillion in England, but I really enjoyed everything about it. One of the most fun parts was finding just the right dress. It was also quite stressful because the dress guidelines we were given were very strict.

Here are some photos:

If you are looking for a white cotillion or graduation dress, here are some suggestions:

1  *  2  *  3

1  *  2  *  3

1  *  2  *  3

My advice, look for something modest and timeless. Keep the accessories minimal, small diamond or pearl earrings would be perfect. And take lots of pictures.

  1. Its a really pretty dress. For my high school graduation we wore dresses like this and they had tons on guidelines on what you could or couldn't have. Make sure it fits the guidelines if any before buying it as well the correct color. Good luck! Its so much fun shopping for this!

  2. I think it is great - depending on the age of your daughter - if she is a high school junior/lower sixth young lady I find it ideal. If your daughter is 17+ however, you may consider finding something a bit more special... i.e. embroidery, cap sleeves, etc. Demetrios, Jim Hjelm, and Essense of Australia have some good potential styles of what I mean. It doesn't need to be super-fussy, esp if she is being presented and is "high school" age - but if she is about to go to college or possibly 21 as some of my fellow southern friends were with cotillions, or debutante balls - special details will help her stand out, in a good way.

  3. Sophie just turned 13. She also did cotillion in 6th grade and wore a tea length dress, but I think she is dying for something full length and strapless this time. She is tall and skinny, so will look fabulous in anything.

  5. With a dress like that and such a lovely girl. You are on the right track. The key is to find a young man that can dance without stepping on it or her.

  6. Gorgeous dress and what a special time for your daughter. Check with the cotillion committee or find someone who attended last year to see what is appropriate/acceptable. Also, check with the Junior League in your town....they should be able to give you some suggestions and/or guidelines.

Can't wait to see what you decide!
