Vintage Jewelry

One of the reasons that people read blogs is because of how often they are inspired by something that they see. Whether it's a recipe to try, a book to read or something to buy I am always being introduced to something new. One blog image that inspired me was this one by a girl who was really into vintage clothing, bags and jewelry.

I fell in love with this bracelet:

I had never bought vintage jewelry before but she posted several pictures of the bracelet and I found out that it was a Monet piece and started searching for it. One was available at an online vintage jewelry store for $300 but I was sure that I could do better than that. Three weeks later I owned the bracelet, having purchased it from eBay for $6:49 including shipping and had found a new addiction!

I now have a small obsession with buying vintage jewelry on eBay. Sometimes I know what I want and will check in once a week or so to see if one is available and sometimes I just find something through random good luck.

Here are a few items from current eBay auctions:

Tassel Necklace

Pearl Bracelet

Finding (and winning) just the right item is a very different experience than buying something new. Try it, you too may discover that you have a vintage jewelry addiction!

Have you ever been inspired by something that you read on this blog?

Pearl Jewelry

I just read that pearl jewelry is really in right now. Which amazes me because I was never aware that it was out! A simple pair of pearl earrings or a beautiful pearl bracelet can never be out of style, can they?

I think what's "in" and "new" is the combination of pearls, gold and multiple strands.

Any one of these would be perfect for a holiday party.

Bows

There is something so deliciously girly about bows.  I love to add bows to my outfits, usually on shoes, a handbag, a belt or small piece of jewelry.

If you're looking to add some bows to your own closet here are some of my picks:

Bows on jewelry and accessories:

Gloves  *  Bracelet  *  Ring

Belt  *  Belt  *  USB

 Bows on shoes:

Decisions, Decisions....

I need some help to make a difficult decision. I have in my possession $400 in gift vouchers for Tiffany, and I can't decide what to get. I don't mind buying something a little more expensive than the vouchers but lets not go crazy!

These are things in this price range that I already own:

I have these in blue topaz...

I have this silver bracelet...

I have several pairs of earrings in this price range.

I have 3 of these, one in black onyx as shown, one in pearl and a pink one that I think is rose quartz

My daughter has the silver toggle bracelet with the heart, a diamonds by the yard necklace and a heart locket.

I also have this nickel clock on my dressing table, and a beautiful crystal bowl in my drawing room.

It's a good problem to have but since I'm going to be at Tiffany on Saturday I really want to make up my mind before then. I prefer to know what I want before I get to the store, I hate to buy things on impulse.

Help!

A new necklace

I don't know about you, but I am a little fed up with the hot weather and am looking forward to autumn.

We will still spend our weekends at the lake, but instead of swimming and boating we will spend our time walking, kayaking and bicycling ... And lots of lazy time, watching movies, reading books, playing games, and just hanging out!!!!!!

One of the exciting aspects of the change in seasons is that I get a chance to change up my decorating, and my closet. I shall soon be taking down the moss balls and nests that have been part of my summer decor, and start having some fun with sparkly pumpkins and the rich colors of autumn.

As for my closet I am focusing on beautiful neutrals for the week, and of course some fun new Lilly for the weekend!

I love this necklace, it is from Etsy.

I can't wait to see what you've bought for fall - I love to be inspired by the blogs that I read.

New York

As you may remember my last trip to New York was cancelled because I did not fancy wearing an evening dress in 19" of snow!

We have been invited to a party on Saturday night, and I think I can trust the weather, so hopefully we will make it this time.

The event is a nighttime cruise around Manhattan and the attire is black or white.

I am planning on wearing a new Lilly dress, with Vintage Alhambra necklace and earrings, platinum nail polish on my fingers and toes and some sparkly sandals with a silver snakeskin bag.

Casual, summery but hopefully sophisticated enough for the event.

Our daughter is at summer camp for two weeks with her friends, but our 10 year old son is very excited about the trip. We are staying in a room that overlooks the Statue of Liberty and it has a telescope, and we plan on visiting the Natural History Museum and the Planetarium. Lots of fun!

Of course I will be visiting Lilly on Madison!

Tiffany Rainbow Drops

I love these earrings from Tiffany. They are called Rainbow Drops.
I love the color, they would go so well with all of my Lilly.

Sadly I have a pair of Rainbow Drops already in a beautiful pale blue topaz, so these aren't for me, but still wanted to share with my blog friends in case you might be interested....

Van Cleef & Arpels - Vintage Alhambra

By now, you have probably realized that I am a girl who loves the classics.

One of the good things about being a little older is that by this age, you have most of the things that you need, and so can slow down, take your time and think about what you really want.

Something that is special enough to invest in, that will look good for years to come, and that can be passed down to your daughter one day....

If you only buy one serious piece of jewelry in your lifetime, then I think it should be this...

The Mother of Pearl (MOP) Vintage Alhambra necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels. It goes with everything, from jeans to a ball gown, and women in the know everywhere recognize it.

I was lucky enough to receive these on my 20th wedding anniversary. Thanks honey :-)
